GUIDE / PRINTING
Which thermal printer to buy (58 vs 80 mm)
If you already have a thermal printer, it will most likely work. If you are buying one, first decide what you will print, then the width.
58 mm for something simple; 80 mm for more room
For a queue number and a few lines, 58 mm paper can be enough. If you want a receipt with more text per line, 80 mm gives you more width. Paper width is not the same as printable area: you pick the width in the app when you set up the ticket.
| Paper | In the app | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 58 mm | 58 mm (pos-58) | Queue numbers and short tickets |
| 80 mm | 80 mm (epson-80) | Receipts with more text |
Which printers work
totemito prints on 58 or 80 mm ESC/POS thermal printers connected over USB, and on network printers (port 9100) too. Most retail thermal printers speak ESC/POS, so try the one you already have first.
The ones on the list are the reference models for each width. With any thermal printer, those included, run a test before opening: if accents come out wrong, the QR is missing or it does not cut, tell us the brand and model so we can adjust its profile.

Before taking it to an event
- Test accents, ñ, the width and a QR code with the paper you will use.
- Check the power supply, the USB cable and the device permissions on Ubuntu.
- Test the cutter if the model has one, and bring spare rolls.
- Run a test without internet and check what happens after a power cut.
