GUIDE / THE MACHINE

Build your kiosk with an N100 mini PC

A small machine, the screen you already own and whatever accessories you need. That is totemito’s first platform.

The base: N100 + Ubuntu 24.04

The MVP targets an N100 mini PC running Ubuntu 24.04 with Chromium in kiosk mode. The cloud configures and publishes the app; the agent and the blocks run on the machine. The totemito installer is still being prepared.

Before you buy, confirm the machine supports Ubuntu 24.04, that its video output matches your screen and that it has enough USB ports. Check the power supply and cables too: a fault there can look like a software problem.

Put together the kit for your case

  1. Connect the screen. For an interactive catalog or game, consider a touch screen from the compatible list.
  2. Add only what you need. A thermal printer if you will print queue tickets; a QR reader if your flow uses codes; a UVC camera if you need snapshots.
  3. Prepare Ubuntu 24.04. Test video, touch and USB before mounting the machine in its cabinet or stand.
  4. When it is available, install totemito. The agent will detect the devices and Chromium will show the runtime in kiosk mode.

What the local agent does

The design includes a systemd service that detects the hardware and serves the app locally. Its API listens on 127.0.0.1 and offers a limited set of operations, such as printing or taking a snapshot. Third-party service tokens stay on the backend.

Internet to publish. A local machine to run.

Once the app is downloaded, the kiosk is designed to keep working offline. To create or edit from the cloud, publish a new version or download updates, you need a connection. Before an event, test the whole flow without internet.
